Parks & Recreation in Henderson

Outdoor life is one of Henderson’s defining traits: one of the valley’s best municipal park systems, foothill trails at the edge of town, the River Mountains Loop Trail, dozens of golf options and Lake Mead 20-30 minutes away. The key seasonal rule is simple: cool-season mornings are glorious, summer is pool season.

City parks

Henderson runs one of the region’s largest municipal park systems: community parks, sports fields, dog parks, splash pads and playgrounds from central Henderson to the foothills. New residents often start at Cornerstone Park and the Water Street Plaza grounds.

Trails & hiking

Trailheads lace the hills around Anthem, Seven Hills and MacDonald Ranch, and the city’s trail network connects neighborhoods to open space. The River Mountains Loop Trail circles the valley’s east side and connects to Lake Mead, Boulder City and beyond.

Golf

Henderson is a golf town: resort-quality courses at Lake Las Vegas, foothill courses around Seven Hills and Rio Secco, private clubs in Anthem and MacDonald Highlands, and active-adult course access at Sun City Anthem. Access and membership vary, so confirm with each club.

Pickleball & sports

Pickleball courts have multiplied across Henderson parks and community centers, alongside tennis, basketball, soccer fields and baseball diamonds. Court availability varies; check reservation systems for the busiest locations.

Cycling

The River Mountains Loop Trail is the marquee ride, and paved paths run through most master plans. Cyclists ride year-round by shifting to early-morning and evening rides in the summer.

Lake Mead & water

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is the region’s playground: boating, fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming, roughly 20-30 minutes from most of Henderson. Lake Las Vegas adds in-town water recreation.

Recreation centers

Henderson operates recreation and senior centers with classes, fitness programs and leagues, and the city’s events calendar fills the year with concerts, festivals and farmers markets.

Seasonal rhythm

Henderson’s recreation calendar is seasonal: hiking, golf and cycling peak October through April, while summer shifts to pools, early-morning trails and evening events.

The River Mountains Loop Trail

The 34-mile paved loop connects Henderson, Boulder City, Lake Mead and the River Mountains foothills. It is the region’s signature multi-use trail: cycling, running, walking and e-bikes, with desert views and Lake Mead access along the way. Trailheads in the eastern and southeastern Henderson areas put residents right on the network.

Golf in Henderson

Course access ranges from public tee times to private membership. Confirm current policy at the specific club before planning around it, and check each community guide (Seven Hills, Anthem, Lake Las Vegas, Sun City Anthem) for the golf situation nearest you.

Where to start

Three ways to try Henderson outdoors

1. Walk a master-plan greenbelt

Every major community guide on this site lists its parks and trails. Pick two communities you are considering and walk their parks the same afternoon; you will learn more than any brochure.

2. Ride the River Mountains Loop

Get a rental bike or e-bike and ride a section of the loop. It touches Lake Mead and gives you the east-side geography, which is the terrain behind Cadence and the lake communities.

3. Attend a Water Street event

Henderson’s downtown calendar, farmers markets and amphitheater shows are the fastest way to meet the community side of the city. The weekly guide lists what’s on.
